Originally from the Centre region, near Yaoundé, Cameroonian guitarist and singer Ottou Marcellin won RFI’s Découverte award in 1982. His first album, Où va l’Afrique, was only released two years later, recorded in Yaoundé and mixed in the Johanna studio. It alternates between theme songs with biting lyrics and fire tracks between makossa and bikutsi. So much so, in fact, that the sound engineer forgot to do the fade out at the end of the album… That may come as a surprise… And as for the musicians, Ottou calls on those who know what they’re doing: the guitars of Moustick Ambassa and Zanzibar, the arrangements by Douglas Mbida. All in all, a heavyweight affair. And what’s more, a small autographed copy to illustrate it all.
