Il rejoint S\u00e9kou Tour\u00e9 avant m\u00eame l\u2019ind\u00e9pendance de la Guin\u00e9e et deviendra l\u2019ambassadeur de la r\u00e9volution, par sa musique. A partir de 1972, sur le label officiel des Editions Syliphone Conakry, cr\u00e9\u00e9 en 1967 par le gouvernement, il publie une s\u00e9rie d\u2019albums consacr\u00e9s \u00e0 <strong>l\u2019Epop\u00e9e du Mandingue <\/strong>dont voici le premier volume. Sa voix puissante, entre chant et incantation, s\u2019appuie sur son trio traditionnel, form\u00e9 avec la kora de <strong><em>Sidiki Diabat\u00e9<\/em><\/strong> (grand-p\u00e8re de l\u2019actuel homonyme, \u00e9galement joueur de kora, mais aussi producteur de hip-hop) et le balafon de <strong><em>Kouyate Dyeli Sory<\/em><\/strong>. Kouyate transmet avec \u00e9motion, une tradition africaine s\u00e9culaire et reprend ici des titres classiques du r\u00e9pertoire, souvent hymnes guerriers (Douga, Kedo, Dyandjon) ou bien la fable romantique Massan\u00e9 Ciss\u00e9, interpr\u00e9t\u00e9e assez r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement par de nombreux artistes.
