Il a d\u00e9but\u00e9 aupr\u00e8s de Tanya St-Val, Patrick Saint-Eloi ou encore Bago et Jocelyne B\u00e9roard. Dans la deuxi\u00e8me moiti\u00e9 des ann\u00e9es 90, Jean-Christophe Maillard<\/strong> enregistre aussi bien pour Mario Canonge que Michel Fugain et Daniel Mille, et on le retrouve aupr\u00e8s du collectif Bisso Na Bisso. En 2000, son premier album, Ka Suite<\/strong>, plongera tout naturellement dans la tradition musicale guadeloup\u00e9enne, pour guitare et ka. Il s’appuie sur Etienne Mbapp\u00e9 et confie les peaux \u00e0 deux maitres, Klod Kiavu\u00e9 et Philippe Maka\u00efa. Un opus tr\u00e8s acoustique, gratifi\u00e9 \u00e0 l’\u00e9poque de 4 \u00e9toiles par JazzMan, et qui n’aurait pas d\u00e9par\u00e9 dans la discographie du label ECM, \u00e0 mon humble avis. Par la suite, Jean-Christophe a m\u00eal\u00e9 au ka ses influences rock pour son projet Grand B\u00e2ton (Mbutu, c’est lui), puis tourn\u00e9 avec Lisa Fischer. On l’a entendu avec Sixun et depuis quelques ann\u00e9es, il accompagne \u00e9galement la chanteuse argentine Sofia Rei.
